Lichen-associated bacteria transform antibacterial usnic acid to products of lower antibiotic activity

چکیده

Lichens are specific symbiotic organisms harboring various microorganisms in addition to the two classic partners (algae or cyanobacterium and fungus). Although lichens produce many antibiotic compounds such as (+)-usnic acid, their associated possess ability colonize an environment where antibiosis exists. Here, we have studied behavior of several lichen-associated bacterial strains presence a known lichen compound. The effect this compound was firstly evaluated on growth metabolism three bacteria, thus showing its inhibit Gram-positive bacteria. This inhibition not thwarted with usnic acid producer strain Streptomyces cyaneofuscatus. biotransformation metabolite also studied. An ethanolamine derivative low activity highlighted chemical profiling, using HPLC-UV combined resolution mass spectrometry. These findings highlight way which some develop resistance mechanisms. A methylated annotated molecular networking method, interest computer-based approach studies.

Antibacterial activity, antibiotic susceptibility and probiotic use of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus)

Growth behavior of five lactic acid bacteria previously isolated from Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus), were evaluated at different pH, temperature and salt concentrations. Also, antibacterial activity of extracellular products (ECPs) of this LAB were assessed to Aeromonas hydrophila . Further, their antibiotic susceptibility was determined with some commonly used antibiotics in aquacultur...

Determination of antibiotic resistance of lactic acid bacteria isolated from traditional Turkish fermented dairy products

In this study, the antibiotic resistance (AR) of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from traditional Turkish fermented dairy products was investigated. Yogurt, white cheese, tulum cheese, cokelek, camız cream and kefir as dairy products were collected from various supermarkets. Lactic acid bacteria such as Lactobacillus spp., Streptococcus spp., Bifidobacterium spp., and Enterecoccus spp. were...

Identification and quantitation of usnic acid from the lichen Usnea species of Anatolia and antimicrobial activity.

Six species of lichens, such as Usnea florida, Usnea barbata, Usnea longissima, Usnea rigida, Usnea hirta and Usnea subflorida, were collected from different areas of Anatolia (district of Antalya, Karabük, Qankiri, Giresun and Trabzon) in Turkey. Their usnic acid amounts in acetone extracts were determined by HPLC. In addition, antimicrobial activities of these extracts were determined against...

Antibacterial activity of natural honey against antibiotic-resistant bacteria

Natural honey is an ancient remedy in folk medicine around the world particularly where conventional and modern therapeutic agents fail. Here we report antibacterial potential of a number of unifloral and multifloral natural honey samples produced in Pakistan. Honey samples were collected from colonies of Apis mallifera and Apis cerana bees foraged on Acacia modesta, Plactranthus speices, Zizip...

Lactic acid bacteria in silage – growth, antibacterial activity and antibiotic resistance

Ensiling is a method that has been known for hundreds of years and been used in Sweden since 18 century. Ensiling is a better way to preserve forage than hay making because the method is not as rain sensitive. Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) are the organisms responsible for the preservation; they ferment Water Soluble Carbohydrates (WSC) under anaerobic conditions and produce lactic acid, which low...
